SMART 2 on the UK life science industry (2011) |
The SMART2 system for pain management is near completion, combining psychological therapy with behavioural monitoring and intelligent feedback. The project has received a great deal of attention within both scientific and public forums. A recent article by UK Life Science extolled SMART2’s consideration of the individual using telehealth both in terms of their involvement in technology development and also in the mood responsiveness of the feedback SMART2 is able to provide. |

The 13th National Conference on Pain Management Programmes (2011) |
Over the next six month we will engage in an evaluation of the system in the homes of individuals with chronic pain. The University of Ulster have been working with the three clinical research teams to take forward prototype development. This is involving evaluation of successive versions of each prototype, taking into account the views and preferences of people with people with stroke, chronic pain and congestive heart failure.Read more... |

September 2008 |
A few changes have occurred within the project team. Tricia Ware, research fellow at Sheffield Hallam University, left the project in September. PhD student Yan Huang has joined the Ulster team with a remit of data analysis. During the last few months we have built upon our success application for ethical approval by applying for and obtaining site specific ethical approval. This means that we can approach and recruit health service staff and patients from agreed services within Sheffield and Bath. Read more... |

| The project is now well underway and we can now report on the activity of the first few months. We are fully staffed apart from one Research Fellow post which is currently being recruited to. NHS ethical approval to undertake our study has been granted. We have also obtained governance approval for the majority of the clinical sites where we will be collecting data. We anticipate obtaining approval from all sites in the coming weeks. We are also very pleased to have received formal confirmation that our project has been included within the National Institute for Health Research Portfolio. Read more... |
